What is the use of blood phasing tests

There is no such thing as blood phase test, only erythrocyte phase. Erythrocyte phase test is used to identify the source of red blood cells in the urine using phase contrast microscopy. The test is able to distinguish whether the hematuria is due to glomerulonephritis or hematuria formed from bleeding elsewhere. If aberrant red blood cells are present in greater than 80% of the erythrocytes on phase contrast, or if spindled red blood cells are present in greater than 5% of the erythrocytes, the hematuria is judged to be of glomerular origin, and glomerulonephritis is considered. If the normal red blood cells are greater than 80%, the red blood cells are judged to be of non-glomerular origin, and the hematuria may be due to urinary tract infection, urinary tract stones, urinary tract tumors, or bleeding from other areas. The test needs to be done using morning urine and preferably 3 times in a row for greater significance. It is recommended to go to the hospital for further counseling.
