When can hepatitis B patients stop taking their medication

Patients with E antigen positive chronic hepatitis B are treated with oral antiviral therapy with nucleosides or nucleotide analogs. If ALT drops to normal, hepatitis B DNA is below the lower limit of detection and E antigen disappears and E antibody is produced, then consolidate the treatment for at least 3 years, during which the patient should be rechecked every 6 months, and if it remains unchanged, the patient can be considered to stop the drug for observation and regular rechecking. For patients with hepatitis B that is negative for E antigen, it is recommended to stop the drug for observation when the ALT drops to normal, the hepatitis B DNA is undetectable, and the surface antigen disappears; patients with cirrhosis are not recommended to stop the drug for observation. Discontinuation is not recommended for patients with hepatitis B cirrhosis.
