The purpose of opening training: functional training through mouth opening exercises in order to strengthen the muscles and joints and avoid postoperative mouth opening restriction. I. What kind of patients need mouth training: Postoperative TMJ ankylosis, postoperative condylar fracture, postoperative fracture with mouth opening restriction. Patients can use openers, chopsticks or wooden wedges for training. The first training can be practiced under the guidance of medical personnel. Placement of the opener: The posterior molar on the affected side (note that it is not the anterior area) Opening training method: 1. 7-10 days after surgery, the patient should be instructed to practice opening the mouth, and the narrower end should be placed on the molar during training. 2, 10 days after surgery, start normal training, more than 5 times a day, each time to passive opening until there is pain, each time to maintain 5 ~ 10 minutes, alternating left and right training, each training 15 ~ 20 minutes. 3. The training should be gradual, gradually increase the opening degree (opening degree refers to the distance between the incisive edges of upper and lower central incisors), at least 1~2mm per week, the opening degree should be practiced to at least 35mm for adults and 30mm or more for children depending on their age. 4, opening training should be carried out for at least 6 months, generally for 6 to 12 months, without the application of the opener passive opening, can open up to 35mm for the success of training standards. 5, regular review in practice, generally should be reviewed at 3 months and 6 months after surgery, when possible, can be combined with bilateral joint area physiotherapy to help training.
