What’s wrong with subxiphoid pressure pain?

Pressure pain below the glabella may be seen in two clinical situations: first, it may be due to digestive system diseases, such as gastric bleeding, gastric ulcer or acute gastritis attack. In these cases, firstly, medication is chosen. If medication is ineffective, gastroscopy is recommended to clarify the diagnosis, followed by the selection of an appropriate treatment plan. Second, it may be due to inflammation of the local ligaments or fascia of the glabella, which in turn leads to a sterile inflammatory reaction with pain. The main manifestation is localized tingling and swelling or radiating pain, which can induce severe pain when pressed or touched by hand, and sometimes the pain can also radiate along the rib cage to the back and anterior chest area. The pain is usually treated with local hot compresses or moxibustion, and can also be treated with topical rubbing of Fotarin ointment or with oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, such as Celecoxib capsules.
