Astragalus soup has different origins and different formulas. Huangqi Tang was recorded in Taiping Shenghui Fang (太平聖惠方) and Shengji Zonglu (聖济總錄), with drugs that tonify Qi and nourish Yin, as well as those that clear heat.
Its efficacy is to benefit qi and nourish yin (tonifying qi, replenishing yin fluid) to remove heat. It can be used in treating deficiency of qi and blood after ulceration of sores, internal heat and thirst. The adverse effects and contraindications of this formula are not clear.
Huangqi Tang in Sheng Ji General Records, Volume 98, consists of Astragalus, Ginseng, Slippery Stone, Schisandra, Fructus Schisandrae, Poria, Magnetite, Dry Lotus Seed, Sang Bai Pi, Scutellariae Radix, and Hovenia Citri Reticulatae. It is mainly used in treating kidney deficiency and labor drenching (urinary frequency and urgency, urinary pain after labor, and discomfort with traction in the lower abdomen). The adverse reactions and contraindications of this formula are not clear.
Clinical need to use the drug under the guidance of a physician, to avoid the adverse consequences caused by self-application.
