Ultrasound examination of the prostate can be performed through the abdominal wall, or through the rectum or perineum. 1. Trans-abdominal wall ultrasound: this is a common way to check the prostate, the patient takes the supine position, the ultrasound probe is placed above the pubic symphysis when the bladder is full, due to the distance of the probe from the prostate gland is far away, and the effect of the examination is affected by obesity, the degree of bladder filling, etc., the display of the internal subtle structure, envelope, blood flow signals, etc., it is used for the preliminary examination of prostate diseases. 2. Transperineal ultrasonography: When the patient is lying on the left side of the perineum, the ultrasound probe is placed in the perineum in front of the anus, and the sound source is closer to the prostate tissue, which can more clearly show the microstructure of the prostate gland, such as calcification, nodules, cysts, etc. However, it can not observe the prostate gland. However, transperineal ultrasound can not observe the whole prostate, and thus is used to make up for the shortcomings of transabdominal ultrasound. 3. Transrectal ultrasound: Transrectal ultrasound is the ultrasound probe inserted into the anus, close to the posterior peritoneum to examine the prostate, from different angles to clearly show the internal microstructure of the prostate, but also able to observe the seminal vesicle glands and the ejaculatory ducts, which is the urology department recognized as the most reliable ultrasound examination of the prostate. However, there may be some discomfort during the examination. Patients suffering from prostate diseases and in need of ultrasound examination are advised to consult a specialized doctor to determine the appropriate examination method.
