Self-healing methods for prolapse

Prolapse is also known as rectal prolapse. For children younger than five years old, conservative treatment can be chosen to wait for it to heal on its own, while for adult patients, it usually cannot heal on its own and requires surgery or other treatments to alleviate the disease.

1. Children under 5 years old: Due to the perpendicular anatomical shape of the rectum and anal canal in infants and young children, prolapse occurs easily when the intra-abdominal pressure increases. In this case, treatment is usually not necessary, through timely help to reposition the prolapsed rectum and try to avoid the movement of increased intra-abdominal pressure, as the child’s body develops, usually can be self-healing.

2. Adult patients: The treatment should be chosen according to the patient’s condition.

(1) Surgery: It is mainly applicable to patients with complete rectal prolapse. Transanal surgery, transsacral rectal fixation, transabdominal rectal fixation, laparoscopic surgery, etc. can be chosen to fix the rectum, so as to treat rectal prolapse.

(2) Other treatments: Injections, i.e., sclerosing and atrophic agents such as sodium cod liver oil, etc. are injected by professional doctors to relieve rectal prolapse; manipulation, i.e., lubricated with paraffin oil, compression of the prolapsed intestinal segments and making them retract on their own, and then fixing them with adhesive tapes to prevent them from prolapsing again; and acupuncture and moxibustion treatments are performed by professional doctors.

It is recommended that people with rectal prolapse should go to the hospital for examination in time to clarify the cause of the disease and receive treatment, so as to avoid serious consequences such as embeddedness, necrosis, anal incontinence and so on. Drugs should be applied under the guidance of a doctor.
