Brain tumor in western medicine is categorized as “headache”, “vertigo”, “vomiting” and other diseases in traditional Chinese medicine, which is caused by insufficiency of liver and kidney, “wind, fire, phlegm, blood stasis, poison and other internal invasions into the interior”. It is caused by insufficiency of the liver and kidneys, “wind, fire, phlegm, stasis and toxicity”. Symptoms include wind evil entering the collaterals, stagnation of qi and blood stasis, and deficiency of yin and yang, etc. It can be treated by using the treatment of eliminating wind powder, promoting blood circulation through the orifices, and the treatment of dihuang yuzhi (a kind of drink for the yellow earth).
1. Wind entering into collaterals. At the early stage of brain tumor, the disease is relatively mild; head and eyes are distended and painful, irritability, thin white moss, stringy pulse; the treatment of dispelling wind and resolving phlegm (dispelling wind evil and resolving phlegm evil), activating blood circulation and opening up the collaterals can be adopted.
2. Qi stagnation and blood stasis. In the middle stage of brain tumor, the condition develops, with stabbing pain in the head, pain in a fixed place, especially at night, dark purple tongue with petechiae, dull and astringent pulse; the treatment of activating blood stasis and removing toxins and dispersing stagnation should be adopted; Tongkou Xiexue Tang should be used to diagnose the symptoms with additions and subtractions, which consists of Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, Peach kernel, Yanhuisuo and other traditional Chinese medicines.
3. Yin and Yang deficiency. In the advanced stage of brain tumor, the disease is serious, with evidence of yin and yang being separated from each other; confusion, cold limbs (cold limbs, even to the elbows and above the knees), soreness and weakness of waist and knees; adopting the treatment of replenishing yin and yang, opening the orifices and resolving phlegm, and using Dihuang Drinking Tonic to add and subtract, which consists of Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Ophiopogon, Dendrobium and other traditional Chinese medicines.
Attention should be paid to the fact that the selection of prescription, dosage plus or minus for brain tumor needs to be carried out under the guidance of doctors, and should not be advocated on one’s own, so as to avoid aggravation of the condition.
