Chinese people are very happy to have a boy, but while they are happy, they need to pay attention to whether the child’s two balls (medically called testicles) are in the scrotum. Cryptorchidism is the failure of the testicles to descend into the scrotum. The prevalence is 3% in full-term newborns and 30% in preterm infants. About 70% of children with undescended cryptorchidism can descend into the scrotum within the first year of life. The rest of the children cannot descend into the scrotum. There are two main hazards of cryptorchidism: 1. Infertility, the fertility of children with cryptorchidism is worse than normal people after adulthood. It is possible to suffer from infertility, and early treatment will reduce this risk. 2. Cryptorchid malignancy – that is, testicular tumor. Earlier literature considered that cryptorchidism malignancy is 40 times more likely than normal testicular malignancy. And recent literature statistics believe that cryptorchidism patients are 8 times more likely to have malignant changes than normal patients. The best time to treat cryptorchidism: The ideal age for effective fertility preservation is 12-24 months after birth. Be sure to pay attention to this time, as it may have a chance to descend into the scrotum within 1 year of age, and beyond 2 years of age, it will have a greater impact on the fertility of the affected child. So time is most important. There are three main types of treatment: 1.Hormone treatment, hormone treatment can increase the chance of cryptorchidism descending to the scrotum. 2.Open surgery treatment. It is suitable for patients whose cryptorchid is in the groin. 3.Laparoscopic surgical treatment. Patients whose cryptorchid is in the abdominal cavity. In short, it is not terrible to lose your balls, what is terrible is to miss the best time for treatment. Be sure to remember that the best time is 12-24 months after birth. Don’t hesitate when it’s time to do the surgery, once you miss the egg, you will never have the chance to recover.
