Iliotibial bundle syndrome can gradually resolve with regular conservative treatment for about 1 month. The iliotibial bundle is located on the lateral side of the thigh and knee joint. Congenital factors or incorrect exercise can cause friction between the iliotibial bundle and the femur, resulting in localized sterile inflammation, which manifests as pain and limited movement in the lateral thigh and knee joint. Pain symptoms can be gradually relieved in about 1 month through rest, local physical therapy, oral administration of nonsteroidal pain medications such as ibuprofen and celecoxib, as well as medications to activate blood stasis. Iliotibial tract syndrome caused by irregular physical exercise requires prompt correction of incorrect exercise. In severe cases, surgery may be considered. Iliotibial bundle syndrome is easily confused with lateral collateral ligament and lateral meniscus injury of the knee joint, and patients should go to the hospital for CT and MRI examinations to clarify the diagnosis.
