What’s wrong with the hiccups of a newborn baby?

Hiccups in newborn babies may be caused by physiological factors such as imperfect development and improper feeding, or by diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux and neonatal purulent meningitis.
1. Physiological factors: the newborn’s diaphragm and digestive function are not yet well developed, easy to hiccups, may also be induced by the milk too fast, eat too full and other factors, is a normal physiological phenomenon.
2. Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD): the causes of this disease include decreased resistance of esophageal mucosa, decreased clearance of the esophagus, and impaired anti-reflux structure and function, etc. The main symptoms include heartburn, reflux, belching, etc., which is why newborns will have hiccups.
3. Neonatal purulent meningitis: this disease is caused by pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli and group B streptococcus, and is related to factors such as weak immunity and imperfect development of the blood-brain barrier. Typical symptoms are vomiting, acute fever, etc., while some of the affected children will show hiccups.
There may be other reasons for hiccups in newborn babies, so it is recommended to go to the hospital in time, improve the examination to clarify the cause of the disease, and then give targeted treatment or therapy under the guidance of the doctor.
