Can you skip the down screening?

Down screening is generally recommended during pregnancy. Down screening refers to the Down’s syndrome test, which is recommended to be completed during pregnancy as prescribed by the doctor. Generally, if the pregnancy is up to 35 years of age and there is no discomfort during the pregnancy, then Down’s syndrome screening can be done to determine if the fetus has trisomy 21. If the pregnancy is over 35 years of age or if there has been a history of adverse pregnancy, then this type of pregnancy can be tested by non-invasive DNA or amniocentesis instead of Down’s syndrome screening. If there is an abnormality in the results of the Down’s syndrome screening, further non-invasive DNA or amniocentesis is needed to determine whether there is an abnormality. In addition, pregnant women are advised to have regular checkups to closely monitor the intrauterine development of the fetus.
