Bai Tong Tang is used to treat Shaoyin disease (a disease caused by the invasion of the Shaoyin meridian by an exogenous pathogen), which is characterized by the presence of yin and yang (the redness of the cheeks due to the deficiency of yang qi in the upper part of the body), and is characterized by the presence of discharges, redness of the cheeks, lying down in a huddled position with a cold feeling, and coldness of the limbs. Bai Tong Tang is from “Treatise on Typhoid Fever”. This formula is composed of dried ginger, raw epiphyllum and scallion white. It has the effect of breaking yin and restoring yang, and promoting the circulation of up and down. It is used in treating Shaoyin disease with Yin Sheng Dai Yang syndrome, which is characterized by coldness from the ends of the hands and feet, from the bottom up to the elbows and knees, redness of the face, dryness of the mouth and pharynx, long and clear urine, and loose stools. In this formula, scallion white is pungent and warm to promote yang, and dry ginger and raw epiphyllum promote yang to restore normal pulse. When used together, the three medicines work together to break the yin and restore the yang, and to promote the effect of the upper and lower parts of the body. The adverse effects and contraindications of Bai Tong Tang are not known.
