How long it takes for hormone side effects to subside

The time it takes for hormone side effects to disappear depends mainly on the length of time the patient has been taking hormone medication. Usually, the side effects can disappear in about 2 weeks for short-term hormone use, but it may take more than 3 months for long-term high-dose hormone use to disappear. Hormones are dependent drugs and have major side effects. Usually, the side effects can be gradually reduced after stopping the drugs, but there are individual differences. For example, if dexamethasone is used in small doses for a short period of time, it may take about 1 week for the side effects to subside. However, for patients with autoimmune system diseases, long-term high-dose dexamethasone treatment is required, resulting in side effects such as obesity, peptic ulcers, and increased blood sugar, etc. It usually takes more than 3 months for the side effects to gradually subside after stopping the drug, and some side effects may not subside completely. Patients should avoid cold, strain, puffed food, carbonated drinks and spicy stimulating food after stopping hormone use. At the same time, patients should drink warm vegetable soup, warm rice porridge, etc. and exercise moderately to increase the body’s resistance.
