Chest pain and hiccups may be caused by improper diet, gastroesophageal reflux and esophageal cancer.
1. Improper diet: it may be caused by overeating, irregular diet, etc., which can make the gastrointestinal tract accumulate gas and diaphragmatic spasm causing chest pain and hiccups.
2. Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD): a disease in which the contents of the stomach and duodenum reflux into the esophagus, mouth, and lungs causing uncomfortable symptoms and/or complications. As stomach acid can damage the esophagus, stomach and other locations, patients may experience symptoms such as acid reflux, heartburn, retrosternal pain, difficulty in swallowing, hiccups and so on.
3. Esophageal cancer: it is a malignant tumor originated from the mucosal epithelium of esophagus, which may be caused by eating habit, infection and other reasons. When lower segment cancer appears, it can cause pain and hiccups in subxiphoid or epigastric region due to the stimulation of tumor.
Chest pain and hiccups may also be caused by other reasons, so it is suggested that patients should go to the hospital in time and follow the doctor’s instruction for treatment to avoid delaying the condition.
