Do you need anticoagulation for atrial flutter?

The principles of anticoagulation in atrial flutter are the same as in atrial fibrillation, and the need for anticoagulants for treatment is determined by the CHADS2-Vasc score. This score assesses the risk of thrombosis based on the presence of heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, stroke, peripheral arterial disease, as well as age and sex of the patient. In general, the more comorbidities and the older the patient is, the higher the risk of thrombosis. If the score is 0, no anticoagulation is possible; if 1, anticoagulation is recommended; if 2 or more, anticoagulation is necessary to prevent thrombosis. Radiofrequency ablation is recommended for the treatment of atrial flutter, and long-term anticoagulation is not necessary if it is curable.
