Perilla leaf is the dried leaf of Perilla frutescens, family Labiatae, which is pungent in flavor, warm in nature and enters the lung and spleen meridians. It is used in treating colds with wind-cold, headache, fever with chills, cough with excessive phlegm, stagnation of qi in the spleen and stomach, chest and epigastric constipation (feeling of fullness and stuffiness in the chest and abdomen), and vomiting in pregnancy.
If the treatment of cold and wind-cold with cough and phlegm, chest tightness, often with the former Hu, bitter almonds, Platycodon grandiflorus; if the treatment of pregnancy qi stagnation, fetal restlessness, nausea and vomiting, can be used in conjunction with the sand nuts, Chen Pi and so on.
