How to determine the extent of retinal detachment

The severity of retinal detachment is mainly based on the extent of retinal detachment, which tends to be more severe when it involves the macula, and generally less severe when it does not. For retinal detachments that do not involve the macula, the patient’s vision is usually not seriously affected, and the degree of severity is relatively mild, mainly manifested as peripheral visual field defects. Once the retinal detachment involves the macula, the patient may experience severe vision loss and the degree of the lesion is more severe. For retinal detachment, patients must go to the ophthalmology department of the hospital in time for examination, and the doctor can confirm the diagnosis by doing fundoscopy and ophthalmic ultrasound examination. Under fundoscopy, the detached retina appears as a greenish-gray bulge, while in ophthalmology ultrasound, retinal detachment appears as a band-like echo connected with the wall of the sphere. Patients with retinal detachment are advised to seek prompt medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow medical advice.
