Can sternoclavicular arthritis heal on its own?

Sternoclavicular arthritis is a disease that can heal on its own. Most cases of sternoclavicular arthritis are caused by falls, injuries, or cold strain, while others are caused by bacterial infections and clavicle fractures. If sternoclavicular arthritis is caused by infection or fracture, it is usually not self-healing and requires targeted and systematic treatment to heal the disease. Arthritis caused by fractures requires fixation of the fracture to reduce irritation of the sternoclavicular joint and allow the inflammation to heal. For other causes of sternoclavicular arthritis, especially those caused by exertion, some mild sternoclavicular arthritis can heal on its own by reducing activity and resting. Patients with sternoclavicular arthritis must limit such movements in order to increase the likelihood of self-healing.
