Rib deformity refers to the abnormal development of ribs that are different in shape from normal ribs, or ribs that are missing or increased in number. 1. Abnormal rib development: ① rib bifurcation, most of them are caused by congenital dysplasia, mostly seen in 2~3 ribs and 5~6 ribs. Rib fusion is common in congenital spinal deformity, usually combined with concurrent ribs and rib defects. Abnormal growth site and direction of ribs, commonly seen in rib ectropion, rickets, funnel chest and other diseases. 2. Absence of ribs: ① daisy-shaped ribs, underdeveloped ribs, short. ② One or several ribs are missing. Some patients with rib defects may be accompanied by pectoralis major muscle deficiency or hypoplasia. 3. Increased number of ribs: the more common is the cervical rib, which can cause thoracic outlet syndrome. Asymptomatic rib deformity does not require special treatment, but if the patient has obvious pain and other symptoms, especially can not rule out rib malignant tumor, feasible surgical treatment.
