What’s this bulge on the side of my foot?

A bulge grows on the side of the foot, the common causes are mainly corns, callus, tendon sheath cysts and so on.
1. Corns: mainly yellowish or dark yellow confined keratinous growths at the site of friction, which may be accompanied by pain. Usually, attention should be paid to avoid long-term friction and pressure on the sole of the foot, choose the right shoes, and do cryotherapy if necessary.
2. Callus: it refers to the long-term pressure and friction of the skin, resulting in local keratin hyperplasia, hardening and keratinization of the skin damage. Most patients are asymptomatic, and a few patients have pressure pain.
3. Tendon sheath cyst: a cystic mass that appears after repeated friction between tendon and surrounding tissues, with hard texture, good mobility and pushability, which can be diagnosed through physical examination. When the cyst grows to a certain extent, the joint will be accompanied by a feeling of soreness and swelling.
Based on the symptoms of a bulge on the side of the foot alone, it is not possible to accurately determine the cause, but also needs to be combined with the characteristics of the medical history and other test results to make an accurate judgment, and it is recommended to clarify the cause of the disease under the guidance of a doctor.
