What happens when the appendix is removed

A normal appendix does not usually require surgical treatment. Because the appendix is an immune organ in the body after all, there are still many immune lymphocytes in the appendix. Studies have shown that the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease is significantly higher after appendectomy. However, in case of inflammation or lesions of the appendix, fecal stone impaction, septic appendicitis or perforated appendicitis, surgery is usually required. The surgery is divided into open appendectomy and laparoscopic appendectomy, and laparoscopic appendectomy is usually used nowadays. After open appendectomy, adhesions may form in the abdominal cavity, resulting in adhesive intestinal obstruction, which often manifests as abdominal pain, or complete intestinal obstruction when the pain is obvious. Laparoscopic appendectomy is much better in this regard, as the abdominal wound is generally smaller and no severe pain develops after the operation.
