What are ground glass nodules

Milled glass nodules include mixed and pure milled glass nodules, and can be manifested by inflammation as well as malignant tumors in the lungs. Lung nodules can be categorized into solid nodules, mixed ground-glass nodules and pure ground-glass nodules according to their density. Mixed ground-glass nodules refer to lung nodules with both solid and ground-glass components, while mixed ground-glass and pure ground-glass nodules are collectively referred to as non-solid nodules or ground-glass nodules. Milled glass nodules appear primarily as cloudy hyperdense shadows on chest CT. Ground-glass nodules can be caused by inflammation in the lungs, including bacterial pneumonia, fungal infections, viral infections, etc. Ground-glass nodules are also less likely to be caused by malignant tumors such as lung cancer. It is recommended that patients consult a specialist to determine the cause of the disease by combining clinical manifestations, inflammation indicators, tumor markers, etc., and follow the doctor’s instructions for further examination and treatment.
