A blood pressure of 150/95 mmHg is considered elevated and is within the range of grade 1 hypertension, i.e., mild hypertension, but note that the blood pressure at a particular time should not be used as the final standard of judgment in case there is a measurement error. A blood pressure of 150 to 95 usually refers to a systolic blood pressure of 150mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure of 95mmHg, which can be expressed as 150/95mmHg. According to the classification and definition of blood pressure levels in the Chinese Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Hypertension, hypertension is diagnosed as an in-office systolic blood pressure of ≥140 mmHg and/or a diastolic blood pressure of ≥90 mmHg measured more than three times on non-simultaneous days without the use of antihypertensive medications. Grade 1 hypertension (mild) is defined as a systolic blood pressure between 140 and 159 mmHg and/or a diastolic blood pressure between 90 and 99 mmHg; therefore, a systolic blood pressure of 150 mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure of 95 mmHg would indicate a grade 1 hypertension level. In order to rule out measurement errors, care should be taken when measuring blood pressure to avoid taking measurements after emotional stress, exercise, smoking and drinking, and to ensure the accuracy of the measurement method. To rule out measurement errors, when the blood pressure is 150/95 mmHg, active lifestyle interventions should be taken, such as reducing sodium intake, balancing diet, controlling body weight, quitting smoking and limiting alcohol consumption, increasing exercise according to the individual’s condition, reducing mental stress, and maintaining psychological balance, etc., as a way to alleviate the progression of high blood pressure. If lifestyle intervention fails to control the further progression of hypertension, timely medication is needed, and specific medication should be prescribed by the doctor.
