Can thyroid ultrasound detect hyperthyroidism?

Thyroid color ultrasound can be used as an auxiliary examination for the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism, but the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism cannot be based on the results of the color ultrasound alone, but also needs to be combined with the clinical manifestations and the serum thyroid hormone and thyroid-stimulating hormone levels, etc. to make a comprehensive judgment. The diagnosis of hyperthyroidism needs to include hypermetabolic symptoms and signs (palpitations, fatigue, fear of heat and excessive sweating, agitation and irritability, hyperphagia but weight loss, etc.), goiter (confirmed by palpation or ultrasound), elevated levels of serum thyroid hormone, and lowered levels of thyroid stimulating hormone. Thyroid color ultrasound can only assist in checking whether the thyroid gland is enlarged, and can only be used as one of the reference items, the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism needs to be combined with clinical symptoms and thyroid function tests to make a comprehensive judgment. If thyroid ultrasound suggests goiter, it is recommended to further improve the relevant examinations, make a clear diagnosis as soon as possible, and actively treat the disease in order to achieve the best prognosis.
