June 25, 2011 was a memorable day in the history of our otolaryngology department when the first cochlear implant surgery in the east of Yuandong was successfully completed in our hospital. A cochlear implant is an electronic device that replaces the function of the human ear. It can help adults and children with severe or profound deafness to restore or provide the sensation of hearing, and is currently the only effective treatment for restoring hearing to patients with total deafness. Cochlear implantation is the top technology in the development of otology today, and it is also the key research project established by our hospital this year. The successful implementation of this surgery makes our hospital the fourth hospital in the province to carry out this technology after Zheng University First Affiliated Hospital and other hospitals, marking a new level of otology technology in our hospital.
