It is possible that sedentary behavior can lead to increased prostate-specific antigen. Prostate-specific antigen is produced and secreted by the epithelial cells of the prostate gland. Physiologically, prostate-specific antigen seldom enters the bloodstream from the prostate gland due to the tissue barrier between the prostate gland and the lymphatic system, and thus the level of prostate-specific antigen in the bloodstream is low. When prostate inflammation occurs due to prolonged pressure on the prostate from sedentary activities, this tissue barrier is damaged, and prostate-specific antigen breaks through the barrier and enters the bloodstream, causing peripheral blood levels of prostate-specific antigen to rise. However, elevated prostate-specific antigen levels are also seen in prostate cancer and after prostate massage and should be further investigated. Therefore, there are other reasons for the increase of prostate specific antigen besides sedentary behavior. When the increase of prostate specific antigen is detected, it is necessary to go to the hospital to rule out prostate cancer and other diseases so as not to miss the best time for diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
