The etiology of vulvar leukoplakia is still unclear, which may be related to autoimmune factors, changes in estrogen level, genetic factors and local chronic stimulation.
1. Autoimmune factors: cellular immunity and humoral immunity of the body are changed during the occurrence of leukoplakia. Therefore, patients may be combined with autoimmune diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, autoimmune thyroiditis, pernicious anemia and so on.
2. Changes in estrogen level: clinically, leukoplakia of vulva mostly occurs before and after menopause, and the lesions may be relieved after the first menstruation of adolescent patients, which suggests that it may be related to the changes in estrogen level.
3. Genetic factors: in some families, mother and daughter and sisters develop the disease at the same time, suggesting that there may be a genetic predisposition to this disease.
4. Chronic local stimulation: frequent scratching of the vulvar skin, repeated rubbing of the vulva, or prolonged exposure of the vulva to an airless and humid environment are more likely to develop the disease, and chronic stimulation by urine is also related to the process of the disease.
When vulvar leukoplakia occurs, it is recommended that patients seek medical treatment in time to reduce itching, redness, swelling, cracking and other symptoms.
