The hymen is susceptible to rupture by various external forces and is mainly a thin fold of mucous membrane covering the vaginal opening, also called the vaginal flap or urethral flap. Besides sex, other strenuous exercises such as horseback riding, martial arts, bicycling, vaginal medication, cleaning the vulva, improper use of built-in tampons, and some heavy physical labor may cause the hymen to rupture. Rupture can even occur in early childhood when foreign objects are inserted into the vagina due to ignorance and masturbation. You need to keep your vulva clean and hygienic, wear less tight pants during menstruation, change your underwear and sanitary products as often as possible, and eat less cold, spicy and stimulating food.
