How to treat rhinitis in children with acupressure

Rhinitis belongs to the categories of “cold and nasal congestion” and “nasal suffocation” in Chinese medicine. The basic formula for children’s rhinitis is “Wasp in the Hole” (hold the head gently with one hand, and with the fingertips of the index and middle fingers of the other hand, rub uninterruptedly along the lower edge of the inner side of the two noses) for 50 times, and rubbing the upper horse of the two persons (located at the back of the palm, in the depression of the small head of the 4th and 5th metacarpal bones) for 1,000 times, and then adding or subtracting according to the identification of the disease. 1. Wind evil offending the lungs: for wind-heat, add Qing Tianhe Shui (located between the radius and ulna on the palm side of the forearm, pushing from the wrist to the elbow) 300 times, Qing Lung Meridian (located on the palm side of the ring finger, clearing from the root of the finger to the tip of the finger) 300 times, and kneading Yifaofeng (the mid-point of the transverse stripe on the dorsal surface of the wrist) 500 times. In case of wind-cold, the basic formula is supplemented by pushing San Guan (holding the child’s hand with one hand and pushing the wrist cross stripe to the elbow cross stripe with the radial edge of the thumb or the surface of the index and middle fingers with the other hand) 300 times, rubbing Yifeng 500 times, and rubbing the shoulder yangchi (i.e., the location of the branch sulcus) 500 times. 2. Lung, spleen and qi deficiency: tonifying the lung meridian (located on the metacarpal surface of the ring finger, tonifying from the tip of the finger to the root of the finger) 500 times, tonifying the spleen meridian (located on the radial side of the thumb, tonifying from the tip of the finger to the root of the finger) 500 times, and kneading the Panmen (located in the center of the large fishbowl) 500 times. 3. Qi stagnation and blood stasis: rubbing Shan Gen (in the middle of the inner canthus of both eyes, the low concave place on the bridge of the nose) for 20 times, kneading Renzhong (the junction of the upper 1/3 and the upper 2/3 of the Renzhong ditch) for 50 times, kneading Yingxiang (0.5 inches from the side of the nose) for 50 times, and pressing and kneading the Hegu acupoints (in the middle of the radial side of the 2nd metacarpal bone) bilaterally for 3~5 minutes. Pediatric rhinitis massage therapy should be performed by professionals in consultation with a clinician.
