Orange peel, or Chen Pi, can be eaten together with Plantago Ovata, and there is no contraindication for the two, which should be used in accordance with medical advice.
Tangerine peel has the effect of strengthening the spleen and regulating qi, drying dampness and resolving phlegm (removing phlegm from the body by drying dampness). It is used for coughing and phlegm, epigastric (abdominal) distension, low food intake, vomiting and diarrhea.
Plantago Ovata is a sweet and cold herb with the efficacy of expelling phlegm, clearing heat, inducing diuresis and diaphoresis (to improve the problem of dribbling of urine, and the problem of small and inaccessible volume of urine), detoxifying the toxin, and cooling the blood.
This product is used in treating phlegm-heat cough, heat drench (burning and stinging pain evident during urination, accompanied by frequent urination and urgency, and discomfort of traction in the lower abdomen) and astringent pain, summer-dampness diarrhea (diarrhea caused by feeling summer-dampness in summer), vomiting of blood and epistaxis (nosebleed), carbuncle, swelling and sores, and oedema with scanty urination.
Adverse effects of the above drugs are not clear. According to the contraindications of Chinese medicine, Chen Pi and Plantago Ovata do not have contraindications, and can be taken together, but need to follow the doctor’s instructions to identify the evidence for the use of combinations.
