Can Liver Function Tell You About Liver Cancer?

Confirmation of liver cancer is a more complicated process, and liver cancer cannot be seen simply by relying on liver function tests. Hepatocellular carcinoma is a common malignant tumor of digestive tract in clinic. Hepatocellular carcinoma refers to malignant tumors occurring in hepatocytes or intrahepatic bile duct cells. When liver cancer occurs, liver function abnormalities, such as abnormal elevation of aminotransferase, elevation of bilirubin, lowering of protein, etc., with different degrees of severity; liver cancer may not have liver function abnormalities, so liver function test is not the gold standard for diagnosing liver cancer. Therefore, liver function test is not the gold standard for diagnosis of liver cancer. Confirmation of diagnosis of liver cancer includes medical history, clinical symptoms and various imaging tests. If a patient with a long history of chronic liver disease has unexplained pain in the liver area, weight loss and progressive hepatomegaly, the diagnosis should be confirmed by combining relevant examinations such as alpha-fetoprotein, abdominal ultrasound and CT. If liver cancer is suspected, early medical consultation should be sought for early diagnosis and treatment.
