What are the considerations for children with strabismus wearing glasses

The main purpose of glasses for children with strabismus is to correct the eye position, and only secondarily to improve visual acuity. If the strabismic children combined with amblyopia, wearing glasses vision is not immediately improve, but through training gradually improve. It is not like myopic glasses immediately after wearing feel clear vision, eyes comfortable, children easily accepted, and most children with strabismus wear farsighted glasses, especially to correct the internal obliquity of the glasses, the first wear when the vision not only does not improve, but more blurred vision, some also cause dizziness, blurred eyes, etc., need a process of adaptation, therefore, many children do not want to wear with. This phenomenon is mainly due to the fact that the degree of hyperopia glasses is detected with atropine pupil dilatation, ciliary muscle completely paralyzed, and glasses are worn according to the full amount. Once the pupil returns to normal, the ciliary muscle returns to a state of tension and some of the farsightedness is hidden by the strong adjustment, so it does not adapt when first worn. Therefore, in order to achieve the purpose of treatment, the child should be forced to insist on wearing, after a period of time the ciliary muscle is forced to gradually relax, also adapted to wear glasses. A few children still can not adapt, you can apply atropine eye ointment every other day or once a day for 3 to 5 days, so that the ciliary muscle in the case of relaxation and then wear glasses, the symptoms of maladjustment will disappear, and when the pupil to normal, the child will also adapt. After the glasses are ready, you must insist on wearing them without interruption, except for sleeping. Otherwise, if you stop wearing them for a few days, the ciliary muscle will be tense again, and the above-mentioned maladjustment will occur again. In general, children with adjustable internal strabismus need to insist on wearing the lenses for three months to six months to see the effect, so you cannot be too hasty. When children wear glasses to play, to prevent the glasses from breaking, you can hold an elastic band on the legs of the mirror tied to the back of the head fixed. To prevent the lenses from breaking and damaging the eyes, you can wear unbreakable resin lenses, but resin lenses are not wear-resistant and need to be protected. After wearing glasses, children with strabismus should insist on regular review at the hospital, generally once every one to three months, to observe the change of strabismus degree and vision improvement after wearing glasses, so that doctors can keep abreast of the treatment effect, make the next treatment plan according to the changes of the child, and adjust the degree in time.
