Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng is sweet and cold to nourish the lung qi, while Ganoderma lucidum has the effect of calming the mind, tonifying the deficiency and relieving cough and expectoration. In combination with Lingzhi’s effect of tonifying the heart and blood, Western ginseng can nourish the qi and blood, with effects similar to those of the famous formula Gui Shen Wan. American ginseng can also treat yin deficiency, dry cough, little breath, weakness and excessive sweating caused by heat illness, and in combination with Ganoderma lucidum, it has similar effects to Nourishing Yin and Clearing Lung Pill. It is also sweet and cold, and has a laxative effect on the intestines, so when combined with Ganoderma lucidum, it can treat dryness of the intestines, dryness of fluid, constipation and blood. Ganoderma lucidum enters the heart meridian and can treat insomnia and dreaminess, weakness and loss of appetite caused by deficiency of qi and blood in the heart, and is effective when used alone. The combination of the two can treat deficiency of yin and blood in the heart and lungs, with effects similar to those of Shengyusan, treating all symptoms of heart disease due to deficiency of both qi and yin.
