What does plt mean in medicine

The medical term PLT is an acronym for platelets. Platelets are the blood cells in the body responsible for stopping bleeding. The normal range is (100-300) × 10^9/L. If it is lower than 100 × 10^9/L, it is called thrombocytopenia and can be seen in aplastic anemia, acute leukemia, megaloblastic anemia, radiation injury, myelofibrosis, primary thrombocytopenic purpura, systemic lupus erythematosus, pernicious lymphoma, respiratory infection, rubella etc. Thrombocytosis can be seen in myeloproliferative disorders such as true erythrocytosis, primary thrombocytosis, early stages of myelofibrosis, and chronic granulocytic leukemia.
