What causes an itch on the outside of the ear

Itchy ears may be associated with eczema of the outer ear, insect bite dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis.
1. Eczema of the outer ear: often triggered by traumatic infections, ingestion or contact with allergic substances and neuropsychiatric diseases, it can manifest as redness, swelling, oozing and itching outside the ear, including the auricle and external auditory canal.
2. Insect bite dermatitis: this disease occurs when mosquitoes, ticks, mites and other insects bite the outside of the ear, the heterogeneous toxins stimulate the body’s immune system, resulting in a stress response, showing redness, swelling and itching of the bites.
3. Allergic contact dermatitis: In allergic patients, after contact with chemicals and adverse stimuli outside the ears that can cause allergic reactions, the onset of redness, swelling and itching outside the ears can be limited to the contact area, often with clear borders and limited range.
When the itch outside the ear persists and cannot be relieved, there are other possibilities, need to actively seek medical treatment, systematic examination before a clear diagnosis and treatment.
