Metronidazole tablets for toothache?

Metronidazole is an antimicrobial drug used primarily to treat infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, such as vaginosis, amoebiasis, and gas gangrene. Probably most closely related to toothache are periodontal disease and apical periodontitis, both of which may be caused by anaerobic bacteria, and therefore metronidazole can be used under the supervision of a physician. However, metronidazole is not the drug of choice for toothache.
Toothache is a common symptom of various dental diseases, including caries, pulpitis and periodontal disease. For the treatment of toothache, the cause should be determined first, and then targeted treatment should be carried out. If the toothache is due to an infection caused by pulpitis or periodontal disease, then reduction of swelling, pain relief and antibacterial treatment are the mainstay of treatment, and metronidazole can be used as part of the antibacterial treatment.
However, if the toothache is caused by other reasons, such as worn or cracked teeth, the use of metronidazole may not be significantly effective.
It is contraindicated in people with active central nervous system disorders and blood disorders, and in pregnant and lactating women.
Patients with toothache are advised to go to a regular hospital, consult a professional doctor, and cooperate with the doctor to complete relevant examinations to clarify the cause and avoid blind treatment.
