Cloves can be infused with astragalus, but the effects of the infusion are limited and generally do not achieve a therapeutic effect. Cloves are effective in warming the middle and lowering the rebelliousness (warming the stomach to prevent stomach qi from rising), and warming the kidneys to support yang (warming and tonifying yang qi in the kidneys). It is used to treat cold stomach (hiccups), cold pain in the epigastrium (cold pain in the stomach and abdomen), poor appetite, vomiting and diarrhea, impotence due to kidney deficiency, coldness in the waist and knees, and yin gangrene (a general term for a group of slow-acting yin sores and ulcers). It should not be used with Yu Jin. Astragalus has the effects of strengthening the spleen and tonifying the middle, raising Yang and lifting up the sun (to raise the Yang Qi of the body to lift up the sunken organs), and supporting the toxicity and muscle growth (to expel poisonous evils and promote muscle growth and wound healing). It can be used for treating spleen qi deficiency, spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the daytime, aggravated by sweating with a little movement), deficiency of qi and blood, sores that are difficult to ulcerate and putrefy, or ulcers that are difficult to converge for a long period of time. Astragalus should not be used if the surface is solid and the evil is prevalent, the sores are at the beginning, or if the heat and poison are still prevalent after ulceration. Cloves and astragalus together with water to drink if there is any discomfort suggests timely discontinuation, timely medical attention.
