Is it normal to get up twice at night?

Whether it is normal to get up 2 times at night cannot be generalized and should be decided according to the actual situation. The normal number of times a person urinates at night is 0-1. If you drink a lot of water before going to bed or if you are mentally stressed or sedentary for a long time, you may get up 2 times at night, which is a normal phenomenon. If you do not drink a lot of water before going to bed and the patient is accompanied by other symptoms, such as urinary urgency and painful urination, then getting up 2 times at night often suggests abnormality. In male patients, this is most often due to prostate enlargement or urinary tract infection, while in women it can be caused by cystitis or bladder overactivity. The patient’s effective bladder capacity decreases and the bladder can hold less urine, so the frequency of urination will increase. In addition, elderly people can have increased nocturnal urine production due to increased nocturnal blood return at night due to vascular sclerosis, causing increased nocturnal urination. For patients whose nocturnal urination is caused by physiological factors more than 2 times, the increase in nocturnal urination can be effectively relieved by reducing the amount of water drunk before bedtime in daily life, exercising appropriately and relieving stress. If the nocturia is caused by disease more than 2 times, patients can apply medication for treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
