Melasma refers to yellow-brown pigmentation spots on the face. Chloasma on both sides of the cheeks should firstly remove the causative factors and take medication and physical therapy. 1. Remove triggers: Melasma can be caused by many factors, such as ultraviolet radiation, certain cosmetics, endocrine disorders, oral contraceptive pills and so on, all of which can lead to melasma. When treating chloasma, the first thing to do is to remove the triggering factors, such as reducing the time of sun exposure, choosing suitable and regular cosmetics, regular work and rest, and strengthening skin care. 2. Medication: For patients with chloasma on both sides of the cheeks, 2%~5% hydroquinone cream, azelaic acid cream, vitamin A acid and other medicines can be used topically under the guidance of doctor, which has certain effect on lightening the pigmentation. For serious cases, vitamin C and vitamin E can be used in combination, and drugs such as tranexamic acid can also be used, so as to inhibit melanin synthesis and reduce chloasma. 3. Physical therapy: mainly through laser therapy and intense pulse light therapy, which is suitable for patients with persistent melasma. Chloasma has a long course and some patients may have recurrence, therefore, patients are advised to go to regular medical institutions for medical consultation and treatment and use medication correctly under the guidance of doctors to avoid damaging the skin.
