Metastasis of esophageal cancer can be treated by surgery or radiotherapy to control the condition, and it is not a certain death. When metastasis occurs in esophageal cancer, it is usually in middle or late stage, mainly in lymph node metastasis, direct diffusion and blood line metastasis, and common metastatic sites include liver, lung, brain, bone and other organs. The survival rate after metastasis is judged by the condition of esophageal cancer itself, the number and degree of lung metastasis, as well as the patient’s physical condition and the kind of treatment he/she can tolerate. If the esophageal cancer has undergone radical surgical resection and then a single metastatic lesion appears, radical surgical resection can be done for the single lesion, and the five-year survival rate after surgery usually reaches 50%. At present, the treatment principle of middle and advanced esophageal cancer is to prolong patients’ life while reducing pain and improving life quality; generally, the disease can be controlled by surgical treatment, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. It is suggested that esophageal cancer patients actively cooperate with the treatment and have absolute confidence to face the disease; meanwhile, moderate exercise can enhance the body resistance.
