What to do about pain in the lower abdomen caused by adenomyosis

Adenomyosis generally refers to adenomyosis of the uterus, and patients with symptoms of abdominal pain need to follow the doctor’s instructions for medication, surgical treatment and so on.

Medication: Usually, patients need to take oral ibuprofen or localized non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as indomethacin suppositories as prescribed by the doctor, so as to relieve the pain, but patients need to pay attention to avoiding large quantities and long-term consumption.

For patients who have reproductive needs, are young, approaching menopause, and have severe symptoms, gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists can be used under medical supervision, which can also reduce or make the pain go away.

Surgery: For patients with severe symptoms who have not responded to medication, a lesionectomy, endometrial removal, total hysterectomy, or uterine artery embolization may be indicated, depending on their reproductive needs.

However, it is contraindicated in patients with combined pregnancy, genitourinary infection, gynecological malignancy, renal insufficiency, severe immunosuppression, skin infection at the puncture point, or allergy to contrast media.

Patients with adenomyosis are advised to closely monitor their condition, observe their symptoms and actively cooperate with doctors for relevant treatment.
