Due to the relationship of hemodynamics, plaques tend to accumulate at the bifurcation of carotid arteries, so carotid stenosis mostly occurs at the bifurcation of carotid arteries. Small plaques can be dynamically observed, control the underlying diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia, take lipid-lowering drugs, and take anti-platelet drugs for treatment at the same time. When the plaque develops to a certain degree and the stenosis rate is ≥60%, it is still recommended to deal with it as early as possible. The treatment methods, including carotid endarterectomy and carotid stenting, depend on the size of the plaque and the stenosis rate.
