CT and MRI have their own advantages and disadvantages, with CT taking less time and costing slightly less and MRI taking longer and costing more. The clinical preference for CT or MRI depends on the patient’s condition and the onset of the stroke. If the patient has an acute stroke, CT is preferred. If the patient has space claustrophobia or has undergone intracranial stent implantation, MRI is usually not performed and CT is preferred. Preference is given to MRI in patients with clear intracranial microscopic lesions, intracranial microbleeds, and intracranial tumors requiring surgical treatment.
