The appendix is located on the surface of the body in the lower middle third of the line connecting the right anterior iliac crest from the navel, where it is also clinically known as the Mai’s point. When complicated by acute inflammation, the characteristic clinical manifestation is metastatic right lower abdominal pain. On physical examination, in addition to the positive pressure pain at Mai’s point, there will also be a positive psoas major muscle test, i.e., if the patient is lying on the left side and the right lower limb is hyperextended, right lower abdominal pain will be induced; and there is also a positive closed-cavity intramuscular test, i.e., if the patient is lying on the ground, holding his breath, and pressing on the left lower abdomen with his hand, right lower abdominal pain will be induced. In addition, coupled with laboratory blood tests, there can be a significant elevation of white blood cells, pelvic CT examination, can also be found in the enlarged inflamed appendix, the diagnosis of acute appendicitis can be confirmed.
