Chinese patent medicines for the treatment of GERD include Gastric Likang Granules, Ganhai Gastric Kang Capsules, Jianqi Gastric Healing Granules, Gastric Reversal Kang Capsules and so on. It is recommended to follow the doctor’s prescription. 1. Gastric Likang Granules is composed of Chaihu, Paeonia lactiflora, Citrus aurantium dulcis and Mucuna pruriens. It has the effect of promoting qi and blood circulation, draining heat and stomach. It is used for gastric pain, gas stagnation and blood stasis with liver and stomach stagnation and heat syndrome, which is characterized by pain in stomach and epigastric region, distension, burning, belching (burping), acid reflux, dry mouth and bitter mouth. Contraindicated in pregnant women, patients with spleen deficiency (loose stools) and diabetes mellitus. 2. Gan Hai Gastric Capsules is composed of Atractylodes macrocephala, Citrus aurantium dulcis, licorice, cuttlebone and so on. It has the effect of strengthening the spleen and stomach, astringent and pain relief. It is used for gastric and duodenal ulcer, chronic gastritis, reflux esophagitis caused by spleen deficiency and Qi stagnation. Pregnant women are prohibited. 3. Stomach Strengthening and Ulcer Granules is composed of Radix Bupleurum Chinense, Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng, Radix Paeoniae Alba and Rhizoma Gastrodiae. It is effective in relieving liver and spleen, promoting muscle growth and relieving pain. It is used for stomach pain caused by liver depression and spleen deficiency, liver-stomach disharmony, which is characterized by distension and pain in the epigastrium (stomach and abdomen), belching and acid swallowing (swallowing the acid in the stomach upward to the oropharynx), irritability and discomfort, abdominal distension and loose stools, etc. The patient may occasionally see drug rash. Occasionally, drug rash can be seen in people taking the medicine. 4. Gastric Reversal Capsule is composed of Chai Hu, Paeonia lactiflora, Citrus aurantium and so on. It has the efficacy of dispersing liver and draining heat, harmonizing stomach and lowering rebelliousness (regulating stomach qi to make the upward rebellious qi descend), suppressing acid and relieving pain (suppressing stomach acid to relieve pain). It is used in treating chest and epigastric dystocia (pain in the area of coarseness and ribs) caused by liver and stomach disharmony and depression-heat syndrome, and acid vomiting and noisy (feeling like hunger and emptiness with burning in the stomach).
