How is blood count considered moderate anemia?

According to the World Health Organization, anemia is diagnosed based on the amount of hemoglobin in the body, and the normal range of values varies by age and gender. Anemia is diagnosed in adult males with hemoglobin <130g/L and in adult females with hemoglobin <120g/L, and anemia is classified as mild, moderate, severe or very severe based on the value of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin >90g/L but lower than normal is considered mild anemia, hemoglobin 60-89g/L is considered moderate anemia, hemoglobin 30-59g/L is considered severe anemia, and hemoglobin <30g/L is considered very severe anemia. Therefore, a hemoglobin concentration of 60-89g/L in the routine blood test can confirm the diagnosis of moderate anemia.
