Do Ursodeoxycholic Acid tablets work on cirrhosis?

Ursodeoxycholic acid is a choleretic agent that is useful in the treatment of cholestatic cirrhosis. Ursodeoxycholic acid reduces cholesterol saturation in bile by inhibiting cholesterol reabsorption in the intestines and decreasing cholesterol secretion into the bile. It also treats hepatic and cholestatic diseases by relatively replacing lipophilic, detergent-like toxic bile acids with hydrophilic, cytoprotective, and non-cytotoxic ursodeoxycholic acid, as well as by promoting secretory effects in hepatocytes. Cirrhosis can be categorized into viral cirrhosis, cholestatic cirrhosis, alcoholic cirrhosis, autoimmune cirrhosis and so on according to the etiology, among which, cholestatic cirrhosis, which is caused by bile duct obstruction, bile stasis and other factors, can be relieved of jaundice symptoms such as scleral yellowing and itching of the skin of the patient by oral administration of ursodeoxycholic acid. It should be noted that it is contraindicated in patients with allergy or intolerance to any component of the product, gallbladder or bile duct disease, or severe liver failure. Use with caution in children, pregnant and lactating women, and the elderly. Ursodeoxycholic acid should be taken under medical supervision.
