There are differences between Sihui San and Chaihu Shuo Liver San in terms of constituents, specific efficacy and indications.
1. Ingredients: Sihui San is composed of 4 Chinese medicines, namely, Chai Hu, Citrus aurantium, Glycyrrhiza glabra and Paeoniae alba. Chaihu Shunhe San contains not only Chaihu, Citrus aurantium dulcis, Glycyrrhiza glabra and Paeonia lactiflora, but also Chenpi, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong and Radix et Rhizoma Aromatica.
2. Specific effects: Although both Sihui San and Chaihu Shuo Liver San have the effect of dispersing the liver and regulating qi, Sihui San can also dispel heat and Chaihu Shuo Liver San can also activate blood circulation and relieve pain.
3. Indications: Si Hei San is indicated for the treatment of conditions such as lack of heat in the hands and feet, diarrhea and dysentery, dystocia (pain in the abdomen), and coercive pain in the epigastric (abdominal) area due to excessive heat. Chai Hu Shuo Liver Powder is indicated for the treatment of chest tightness, pain in the coarseness and ribs, and easy anger caused by stagnation of liver qi.
The side effects of both Sihui San and Chaihu Shuo Hepatosan are not clear. Sihui San can be used as both prescription and proprietary Chinese medicine, while Chaihu Shuo Hepatosan is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription, and the use of both medicines needs to be guided by professional Chinese medicine practitioners.
