Is it possible for a patient with advanced rectal cancer to survive for 19 years?

Survival of 19 years for patients with advanced rectal cancer is possible, but it needs to be established in the case of better differentiation or distant metastasis is single and the lesion is isolated. Usually, after active and effective treatment, patients with advanced rectal cancer can greatly prolong their survival period, although they cannot achieve complete cure.

The condition of advanced rectal cancer develops more rapidly, which will consume a lot of nutrients in the patient’s body and even cause distant metastasis. Cancer tissues in advanced stage of rectal cancer are too big and fragile, which makes it easy to have blood in stool or difficulty in defecation, and in serious cases, acute intestinal obstruction will also occur.

For patients with rectal cancer, surgery is the main treatment. Considering that most patients with advanced rectal cancer do not have surgical conditions, most of them adopt radiotherapy to control their condition, and also take targeted drugs for symptomatic treatment.

Besides actively cooperating with doctors to carry out relevant treatments, patients with advanced rectal cancer should maintain regular living habits and a good mindset, increase the amount of mild exercise, eat less or no high-fat, spicy and stimulating foods, fried foods, etc., and increase the intake of fresh vegetables.
